Shabbat (the
Sabbath) is as ancient as the universe itself when God set the example
by resting on the seventh day after six days of creation. It
become a sign of God's covenant with Israel with the command in the
tenwords: "Remember the Sabbath" (Exodus 20:8). Jesus affirmed
that He was "Lord of the Sabbath" (Luke 6:5), the day that God had made
"for man" (Mark 2:27). Those who have believed in Jesus have
entered into the Person of the Sabbath, Jesus himself (Matthew 11:28).
Christians, therefore, have the liberty to celebrate what God has done
both naturally and spiritually and what He will yet do as they take
delight in Shabbat (Isaiah 58:13).
